  • What's up everyone? Wes, here and I enjoy many facets of life including the outdoors, music, photography and computers. I am working on my second degree, (the first one being a BS in Geology from Radford University). After working for a few years in the environmental consulting game I decided to switch career paths and go back to school. I'm in my second year at Germanna with my goals of obtaining a job in the IT field in network administration or Web design, while continuing my education by transferring to a 4-year school. I'm very excited to take this class and look forward to this semester!

Was able to download and install the entire suite, no problems. This software (which is given to us free) looks very impressive and powerful.

    1. Read Text Chapter 2. After reading text, re-visit this blog and answer the following questions:

    a. In MS Expression Web, what menus options do you select to use a different version of HTML and XHTML? What page did you find this answer on?

The menu options use to select different versions of HTML and XHTML are located under the page editor options and the different versions are selected through the Document Type Declaration. The answer was found on page 27.

    b. Open MS Expression Web, Choose: File; New; Web Site . Name 3 different templates. Which is your favorite? Open your favorite template. Name some of the files that exist. Open a couple of the files. Would you use this template to build a site for yourself? Why/Why not?
    1) Personal 1
    2) Small Business 2
    3) Organization 3
My favorite is Small business 6. Some of the files used to build this website are
    Master.dwt
    Default.html
There are also 2 image files used to create this template. I would use this design for several reasons. The template is very simple and clean looking. It appears to easily updated, The overall look of the website appear to be easily change. Multiple areas have been created for many different pages. Content can edited easily. Its easy to read.

    c. What type of file has .dwt as an extension. Tell me about this file type.

DWT stands for dynamic web templates. DWTs uses a master file that enable common features of a web page (eg navigation bars, menu lists and corporate logos) to span multiple pages within a site.

    d. Open MS Expression Design . Open the samples (see address to files in text). Tell me about one of the images. Would you use this image? How would you change to suit your needs?

I choose the image of the three clocks. If needed I would use this image in a webpage. Its sharp and slick, and would be perfect as a link icon or button. The image could be scaled up or down depending on the need.

    2. Visit a Tutorial Site. Spend 3 hours (classtime) on the tutorial. What site did you visit? What did you learn? Are you ready to start your own site? Start Planning Now!

I'm using my own idea for our Web 2 Project, I am going to be redesigning the Website for Culpeper County High School Athletics. Here is the Link to their current web page http://www.culpeperschools.org/hs_sports/ As you can see the site is Web 1.0. I plan on updating the overall look, feel and layout of site and give it a more modern tone. The design of the site will be completely redone. Some content will be deleted and some will be added. The site in it current form is fine, all the links work and the content is up to date. But as the web and internet progressive, the subject of user experience come into play and that's what this site lacks. The site needs to be simple enough so that the Athletic Director can make changes to it on his own. I will be creating a page on my home page that delves further into the scope of this project.
